Today's Parent, Canada's Parenting Magazine, in their September, 2004 issue listing the Top 40 Schools across Canada, named St. Monica/St. Mary the All Round Cool School recognizing overall success. Below is the clip on p. 84 written by Sarah Moore.

WHY NOMINATED
Where to start? With the literacy support/reading recovery team that supports K-1 students at the Early Learning Centre, or with the Robotics Lab for enrichment in science and math? Or we could tell you about the Artists in Residence Program, which sees local artists spend weeks at a time working with students. Last year the school initiated an Adventure Week Program for each class, allowing kids to experience a week of learning at the zoo, museum, art gallery, conservatory and the Space and Science Edmonton Odyssium. And we haven't even touched on the school's commitment to children with special needs, or its outdoor classroom.

Meanwhile, based on a one-school, two-campus concept, St. Mary/St. Monica has consistently exceeded the provincial achievement tests and the district exams for the past five years.

WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
The school has been recognized by the Network of Innovative Schools for its leadership, commitment and success in integrating technology to improve learning. St. Mary/St. Monica was selected by Industry Canada as one of 18 schools that demonstrate "leading practices" in advanced technology. Every teacher is involved with the Telecollaborative Projects, which connect students to children as far away as Tasmania (see stmary.ecsd.net). There's even a student-led, in-house TV studio with remote location broadcast and learning channel, and a school-based electronic e-zine.
