Watercolors
a telecollaborative project

Mrs. Weighill's Grade 1

Watercolor Workshop

Painting with six and seven year olds

An exploration of watercolors with grade two students at Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts

 About Watercolor :

Watercolors have a reputation of being difficult to work with and unforgiving. It is true that since you cannot make extensive alterations and corrections watercolor paintings need more planning than opaque paints. Watercolor paintings can be planned and organized successfully by young painters.

 Materials:

There are two main types of water color

·        Pure watercolor which is translucent. I use Prang student watercolors with my young students.

·        Gouache which is opaque

 Brushes

·        #4 and #10 round Taklon brushes

 Paper

·        140lb cold press watercolor paper

·        Ripple cotton paper

·        Rice paper
